The next phase of the project was to prepare the site for concrete/cement. Forming, leveling (transit half day rental is $28),squaring (3-4-5) and other math skills are brought into play. That done the road crush arrives. Spreading and packing the road crush comes next.
Canar Rock is a great supplier to the home owner market. Road crush prices are about $70 per yard delivered. The order desk lady is awesome. (I shorted my initial order by a 1/2 yard (5:30pm Wednesday I was finished spreading and packing what I had) I called the order desk by 9:15am Thursday and at 10:30am I had my extra yard! By noon I was returning my packer to the rental company having compiled a $53 one day charge.
As the forms are square and level I took a 2 x 4 and clamped it to the inside of the forms. Using a “Sharpy” I drew a mark 3 1/2 inches down from the top of the form and back filled to this mark with road crush. This obviously gives you a 3 1/2 inch thick pad which some will say is not thick enough. However, you are not parking on it.
You could tell your neighbours that you are trying to do your best to reduce the housing crunch in the city and you intend to place ATCO trailers on the pad and rent them out for $1000 person per month. Two trailers four renters hmmm?
Maybe you should look at four inches and use rebar. I went with 3.5 - 4 inches and used six inch sqare wire mesh at $73/ 5′x100′ roll. You could go with rebar on 2 foot centers.
