About Edmonton Sports Camps
“Edmonton Sports Camps” is a vestige of the old Continuing Education camps morphed into various sport camps by Physical Education teachers in 1983.
It was one of the first basketball camps in Edmonton designated specifically for younger, entry -level players. We have modified games, teaching progressions and equipment (smaller balls and lower hoops) to do everything possible to give younger children a positive first time exposure to basketball. These “Elementary camps remain today and are still popular.
During our time running these basketball camps many, many athletes have had the “Edmonton Sports Camps’ experience at Edmonton High Schools during the first two weeks in July. Some families have had kids in our camps forever! Many kids that went to our camps in the eighties or that have been coached by us have their own children in our camps today.
Hien Lu has been involved with all levels of basketball for the past twenty years. From working with entry level participants to developing and maintaining a strong and competitive women’s program locally and provincially at Strathcona High School. Many of his players have gone on to pursue their education while playing basketball for local, provincial and national college and universities. His goal is to provide opportunities to develop life skills through the game of basketball while focusing on the fundamentals of the game.
Neil Schneider has been a dedicated coach for the past twenty years. As a physical education teacher, he has coached both girls and boys at the junior high and high school level. As a father of two young children, he has taken an interest in developing their skills and abilities. Neil has created successful programs wherever he has coached. His main goal is to provide a safe and fun learning environment where athletes are willing to take risks. Neil believes that good fundamentals are the basis of every great basketball player.
